A. What are the motivations of at least four of the following characters? Benjamin Martin Gabriel Martin Aunt Charlotte Col. William Tavington Col. Harry Burwell Maj. Jean Villeneuve Reverend Oliver Anne Howard Capt. Wilkins Thomas Martin Peter Howard Gen. Cornwallis Occam Benjamin Martin: Benjamin Martin did not want to fight in the American Revolution nor did he want his sons to, but when push came to shove, he was determined to protect his family and avenge his sons death. Gabriel Martin: Gabriel wanted to be a solider, he wanted to protect his homeland, he wanted to fight for his freedom and that of his countrymen. He wanted to support the war of independence. He saw his land being attacked and he wanted to do something about it. Thomas Martin: All Thomas wanted was to be a man, a solider, like his father had been, like his brother was. He wanted to help protect his family. He wanted to go to war and fight like many other young men his age. He was determined to fight, and unfortunately he died protecting his older brother from the enemy. Gen. Cornwallis: Cornwallis was a proper officer and a gentleman. He was there to end the colonies war and bring them back in line with British rule once and for all. He was under obligation to the king to get the colonist to behave in an orderly fashion and to accept British laws no mater how harsh they were on the colonists.
