The Tet Offensive


The Vietnam War was the longest war the United States ever fought in, lasting eight years from 1966 until 1975. The Vietnam War consisted of many great battles with the Tet Offensive being the bloodiest, best prepared, and a turning point in the war for North Vietnam.
The Tet Offensive was to take place on January 31 the day of Tet, the Vietnamese lunar New Year. The attack was planned for Tet for surprise and the very reason that everyone would be resting and tired after having an eventful day.
The plan for the Tet Offensive began in September of 1967 when General Vo Nguyen Giap conducted a study. ... So was born the Tet Offensive (Forrest). General Giap planned an attack on the United States Marine base at Khe Sanh, meanwhile, the Viet Cong planned coordinated attacks on virtually every major city in South Vietnam (Tet Offensive). ...
