The Forgotten Hero
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were both fighting the same war for the same people. They battled for the right of black people to be acknowledged and treated like human beings. In truth, they were not civil rights leaders, but human rights leaders for they fought for the rights humans. The major difference however was their view on how these rights should be obtained. King believed that non-violence was the only way to break the walls of oppression and Malcolm X wanted to gain "freedom - by any means necessary." Because of Malcolm’s extreme views on the civil rights issue, he is often silenced in school books and under recognized by the black community. Through the book “Malcolm X Speaks” by George Breitman, it is easy to see the great man that Malcolm was. He was hard working and only wanted the best for blacks not only in the United States but the world. Malcolm was a better leader for the black community because he saw the true problem that needed to be fixed. He experienced the ghettos, the drugs, and even jail first hand.
