In the 1920s and 1930s America's economy plunged into the greatest depression that it has ever seen. Changes needed to take place in order for America to pick up pieces of its economy. The conflict between modern and traditional values in the 1920s also found expression in the contradictory roles of women. When men came back from WWI women were expected to quit their jobs and return to their homes.
