Historical Accuracy
“The Untouchables” is a similar, but not exact, representation of the capture of Al Capone. In the movie, Ness, Wallace, Malone, and Stone seem to be the main cause of Capone’s conviction, but in reality, the IRS was much more involved than they are portrayed to be. However, the movie is very accurate in the portrayal of the time period. ... Eliot Ness and his “Untouchables” seem to be the only honest men when Ness discovers that the judge and jury for Capone’s trial have been bribed, but Ness convinces the judge to switch juries in exchange for not announcing his false ethics, another example of how political officials and the police were easily bought during the 20’s.
