During the latter half of the nineteenth century the ideas of foreign policy in the United States were largely affected by domestic affairs. The United States did not have a forceful policy during the 1870’s and 1880’s, but instead faced issues within the borders and on the same landmass. ... Many American lives were lost during the fighting as well as the almost extinction of the natives from our lands. ... Treaties and other agreements were kept during this period this gained trust between countries which also helped increase trade. ... The occurrence of the communication revolution destroyed the isolationism that once was a true factor in the decision of how to deal with foreign policy. ... This was a very important issue in the ideas of our new foreign policy. ... More and more people were immigrating to the US as it started to become a super power during this era. ... This helped play into the United States’ very arrogant view during the late 19th century, making it believe it had a right to expand beyond its borders. ... ” This was the idea of the US being more powerful and important than all others, lending itself to Social Darwinism.
