Women and the American Revolution

The American Revolution was both a collective struggle that marched a sizable portion of the American people against Britain and a civil war between inhabitants of North America. With the revolutionary uproar in American society, came an immense support from many American women supporting colonial resistance in the fight for independence and certain freedoms. The status of the colonial woman during the late eighteenth century and the American Revolution appeared to be apparent once the war had concluded. Colonial women yearned to be heard by society, to be respected on an intellectual level, and to obtain a strong sense of sexual equality among all Americans.
When America declared independence from Great Britain and broke away from all of its restrictions, most would think that freedom, liberty, and equality, the revolution’s basic ideologies, would be imposed on its entire people.
