First Aid The first thing that was explained to us was the correct order of signs to check for after an accident. First and foremost, of course, the emergency services must be called. When you dial 999 you will be asked, ‘What service do you require?’ (Fire, Police or Ambulance) and ‘What is your number?’ When you get through to the ambulance tell the operator exactly where you are, describe the type of accident, and tell them what has happened. The most important first aid to know is how to bring someone who has stopped breathing back to life. The process is called ‘resuscitation’ and it is important to do it in a special order. The checklist is in five parts. 1) DANGER – Is there any further danger to you?
