Psychology The cognitive approach to psychology The cognitive approach to psychology began to evolve in the late 1950’s, early 1960’s. By the 1970’s it had become the dominant in the subject of psychology. People such as Jean Piaget resurrected the interest in mental processes gradually through his work. However the arrival of the computer is what gave the terminology needed to investigate the human mind in cognitive psychology. The main idea of cognitive psychology is to compare the human mind to computers as if we too are information processors (input process output).
