The Price of Socialized Medicine
Europe is learning a difficult lesson about their socialized medicine system: nothing comes free. When Europe and Canada first instituted socialized medicine, activists in America saw these countries as the role models for America to follow. ... It has since become clear, however, that socialized medicine has taken a great toll on both the economies of these nations and the quality of medical care in them. The troubles that currently plague Europe and Canada’s medical care system would also afflict American healthcare if we follow their lead and introduced socialized medicine here across the Atlantic.
For many years, pro-socialized medicine parties have drawn attention to the fact that that America is the “only industrialized country without a national health care system.” This argument however, is similar to the old adage of “if all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it, too? ... What people will find if they choose to do their research is that most citizens in countries with socialized medicine favor a return to private medicine (any citizens who can afford to go to private facilities already do) and that the cost of operating these medical systems has taxed the people and government resources to the limit.
