Animal Rights
Most of us at one time or another have felt uneasy about the treatment of animals in this world. Over the years, we have seen this issue raised at zoos, amusement parks and even animal shelters across the country. Yet to date experimenting on animals has likely been the most debated topic regarding animal rights. In “Animal Liberation” by Peter Singer and “Animal Rights Versus Human Health” by Albert Rosenfeld, these writers report their reasons for being either in favor or against experimentation on animals and in some cases even humans. Despite certainly different reasons for feeling the way they do in regards to animal experimentation, Singer and Rosenfeld share the following similar concerns: justification, alternatives, and pain.
Both Singer and Rosenfeld discuss their viewpoints on the justification of animal experimentation. ... He states that if an experimenter is not willing to use a human infant or even a retarded person in an experiment, then using an animal shows “an unjustifiable form of discrimination”. ... He argues that experimenters are tightly scrutinized and regulated by the government and that they have to keep detailed reports on all animal experiments.
