American History X
Upon watching the movie, “American History X”, I immediately realized that it centered around a theme of American racism, especially that of white supremacy. I found this film to be initially shocking; however, as I continue to think about it, I begin to see many things far below the surface of the plot. The movie really opened my eyes to the many aspects of racism in our society. In today’s world, it’s impossible to read the newspaper, watch television, or step outside one’s own door without encountering racism. I myself have never been a victim of, or a direct witness to, a racial act. Coming from a (nearly all) white, Catholic high school, I have been mostly sheltered from the direct impact of it (or so I thought…) However, I understand that it impacts me in every way; this movie truly helped me to see that.
