In the biomedical world, it is almost impossible to create new medicines and treatments without the use of lab animals, but at the same time many people feel that doing testing on animals is cruel. When comparing what the criteria and definition of cruel is, it becomes apparent that animal testing in labs under government regulation is not cruel. Animal cruelty would be if the scientists were depriving the animals of their basic needs such as food, water, and proper shelter. ... Lastly, testing on animals would be considered cruel if the actual testing did not serve and important purpose, but there are many facts and examples that show how significant animal experimentation actually is. All three criteria that define the definition of animal cruelty contradict the opinion that experimentation on animals in a regulated lab is animal cruelty. Keeping animal in a lab and experimenting on them is not cruel.
In order for one to be cruel to an animal, the animal would have to be refused basic necessities that they would need to survive. ... Under regulated animal testing laboratories, there are several reasons why they would not want, and would not be allowed to deny their animals with these things. ... Laws under the federal government, the Animal Welfare Act, and the Public Health Service Act control the conditions of caging and aspects of feeding, and water. ... Finally, many scientists and technicians who work with animals are already animal lovers. ...
A second reason why animal experimentation in regulated labs is not cruel is because scientists do not perform inhumane experiments on the animals.
