doctors took utmost precautions, and male AIDS patients were primarily treated only by female physicians. At this point in time, it wasn’t fully known whether or not the HIV virus was airborne or if one needed more intimate contact to contract the disease. It was eventually discovered that the only ways the HIV virus could be contracted were via unprotected sexual contact, exchange of bodily fluids and contaminated needles. As the 1980s turned into the early 1990s, the AIDS epidemic had not improved.
