The purpose of this paper is to research cocaine in order to determine what is it, its effects, and other important facts. It will give you a better understanding of cocaine. In order to give you this information, a research paper has been derived from various sources. A question commonly asked by many people is “what is cocaine?” Cocaine is the alkaloid or drug content of the coca leaf. Sometimes, cocaine is used to refer to “cocaine hydrochloride.” It is also an extremely addictive drug. So, that is an answer to a question commonly asked by many people. Cocaine has an ordinary look, and it is occasionally confused with similar looking substances. Cocaine is a white substance; it resembles powdered sugar. Many have to taste it to find out whether it is cocaine. Because of its appearance, cocaine is often mistaken with similar looking substances. Cocaine has three main forms in which it is made. In primitive laboratories, the leaves are changed into a paste that has a crude, grayish color. It is manufactured into a white powder, which is the most common. In addition to being made into a paste and a powder, cocaine is heated to release hydrochloride; this changes it into small rocks known as crack. Those were the three main forms of cocaine. “Crack” is a street name for cocaine that has been changed into a free base for smoking. Crack-cocaine is processed with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water, then heated, thus producing a form of cocaine that can be smoked. The term “crack” refers to the crackling sound heard when the mixture is smoked (heated), presumably from the sodium bicarbonate. After cocaine is changed into a free base, it is referred to by its street name. There are several ways to gain a “high” from cocaine, and its other forms. Some may sniff or snort its most prevalent form, a fine white powder. Others inject cocaine into a muscle or vein, once it has been dissolved in water. The remaining few have chosen a different method. The ways to gain a high from cocaine vary slightly but are all dangerous. The duration time of a high mainly depends on the method used to gain it.
