Kantian Ethics
Kantian respect for persons means we realize that other people are autonomous (free agents that have the capability to decide how to act. Kant wants us to treat others, as we would want to be treated. We should recognize the importance of freedom and autonomy, and respect others freedom to choose. Our actions should be evaluated according to whether or not they show respect to persons. “Act so that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in that of another, always as an end and never as a means only." The Kantian imperative agrees with the Christian expression of "The Golden Rule" by demanding that we derive from our own self-interest a generalized concern for all human beings.
