John Keats seems to be in a depressed state and portrays himself as a man who is thinking about life’s letdowns as he writes “Why Did I Laugh Tonight? ... The whole poem comes across as dark and creepy, and one would think that Keats is a pessimist, and a man longing to be dead. ... ” These two poems display that Keats’ is versatile in the way he writes his poetry.
In Keats’ poem, “Why Did I Laugh Tonight? ... As said before, the mood is dark, and Keats appears to be exploring the depths of his mind to the fullest, without holding any emotion back. ... Normally one would think nothing of a small laugh, but Keats decides to look deeper into his actions. ... Keats seems very unhappy and wishes he could die tonight. ... John Keats focuses on the pain in life and the depression we all face at one point in our lives in this poem. ... “Ode to Autumn” portrays John Keats’ ability to enjoy living, and also be able to focus on the positive aspects of life, such as the beauty of nature. Keats is speaking to the audience. Throughout this poem, Keats is very descriptive, which helps the reader to understand how deeply the poet is feeling about autumn. ... In the first line, Keats sets the scene to be a mellow autumn day. Autumn is a season where all fruits are ripe, soft, good flavor, sweet and juicy, fully matured, as Keats describes “fruit with ripeness to the core. ... In the second stanza, Keats seems to be describing a female figure of autumn. ... ” The way Keats describes her, “hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind” makes you imagine what she looks like.
