Letter to Mustapha Kemal Ataturk (Fiction)
Dear President Mustapha Kemal Ataturk, I am grateful that you have brought the Turkish people together as the first independent nation in the Middle East out of the ashes of the Ottoman Empire, which was the “sick man of Europe” at the turn of the century. However, some of the things that you do make me very infuriated. I understand that our country needs to rise from being disrespected in the international community. I am indeed appreciative of your initiative to modernize our textile, glass, paper, and cement factories to bring about a boost to our economy. On the other hand, you are definitely over doing it. Trying to westernized our society isn’t helping. We are pushing away our closest brothers---the countries in the Middle East. Don’t forget them. The Europeans aren’t our friends. They are greedy and follow evil ways to get what they want.
