Narration Essay

I sat and I listened to him talk for what seemed like an hour. My body had never been so still; my heart had never beaten so fast. He spoke slowly and clearly, and yet his words left me inebriated with confusion. His brief oration slowly came to an end and concluded without any type of spectacular close. I’m sure he expected a response; but I just sat there, silent and still, not knowing exactly what type of reaction was appropriate. I was speechless. The silence finally was broken with the sound of Leo’s squeaking pubescent voice. “I’m gonna go get pizza with my dad…wanna come?” I was irritated with the insignificance of his invite; I declined, in silence, with a simple nod of the head. Leo’s girlfriend, and more importantly my sister, was pregnant. We were in our first semester of high school and Leo and I were 15 years old. My mom started my sister in school early so that her and I could go through school together; she was 14. I was the last to be told that I was a soon to be uncle; Leo felt that it should be his responsibility, given that we had been friends since we were toddlers. Our friendship was more like a brotherhood then anything; we were together so much it was almost like we had formed the same personality.
