Necessity of Respecting Copyright Laws
It is necessary for educators to respect copyright laws to uphold the principles of Fair Use and to be a good example for the students. The copyright laws belong to the owners of protected work and educators should follow the guidelines pertaining to creation, ownership, and storage of copyrighted materials. Any work is protected as soon as it is created whether it’s a manuscript, slide, or image and registration with the Copyright Office is not required, except in the event of an infringement, then a work must be registered before a plaintiff can collect on statutory damage.
