Fish are a major source of food in many countries and cultures. Many of these countries, such as China, who catch more fish than any other country in the world, are poor. If they don’t have the fish to eat or to export to rich countries like America, they’ll just get poorer. Also, if these countries that are struggling don’t get the protein that fish have, their life span will grow shorter. Cause in many cases fish is the only source of protein they can get.
According to the United Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 69% of the oceans marine fish are either fully exploited or heavily exploited, 6% depleted, and 3% slowly recovering from past over fishing. The FAO also estimates that 70% of fisheries are depleted or nearly depleted as more and more of the world’s people depend on fish.
