Savage Inequalities by Kozol
|

|
Children from lower social economic conditions should have the same rights in education as middle class children. It is not themselves who put them in the position that they are in now, and sometimes it is not even their parents fault. Society as a whole is not fair; education is one place that it should be. In Jonathan Kozol’s Savage Inequalities, he talks about how the children are viewed in the eyes of the system, “If children are seen primarily as raw material for industry, a greater investment in the better material makes sense. Market values do not favor much investment in the poorest children.” (p 75). Kozol goes on to tell about how the children in the poorer districts are not receiving even half the educational advantages that the children in the richer one are.
