Socrates and evil acts

“The Wise Man: Socrates”

Socrates was undoubtedly one of the most influential philosophers in his time. ... His teachings are based on the Socratic imperative “know thyself”, which is the standard of Socrates’ teachings. One of Socrates’ important ideas in the Protagoras is his explanation of evil. Using the notions of weakness of will, ignorance, virtue, wisdom, and knowledge, Socrates argues that no one knowingly does evil. ... In this sense, no one knowingly and willingly commits an evil act. Socrates points out that people who do evil things are solely after the advantageous goal of their actions. They do evil things to get what they want. To do something that is evil is the same thing as doing something in a state of ignorance. Any action that is evil is an action whose effects are not properly understood.
