Society and Cocaine
For nearly forty years drugs have been one of the most talked about news items and concerns in the world. Although there had been various types and ways to obtain drugs before President Nixon declared the War on Drugs, there was one man who became the main supplier of cocaine and marijuana in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. ... To George Jung marijuana was a part of his life and society, “In late 1960s recreational drug use becomes fashionable among young,
white, middle class Americans”(Thirty Years of). ... Once Jung and Escobar met, the men formed the beginning of The Medellin Cartel, and began smuggling and trafficking cocaine in the United States.
