School Uniforms
A topic that has recently given way to much debate is whether public schools should make it mandatory for students to wear uniforms. “The subject of implementing the use of school uniforms into public schools has been circulating for years, gaining momentum during the late 1980’s and increasing steadily throughout the early 1920’s” (Thomas). Many people feel that uniforms have positive effects, helping the students as well as the families. Public schools should require that students wear school uniforms due to the fact that it saves money, helps stop discrimination about clothes, and can provide for a safer environment.
Having school uniforms can help students and their families save money since students will not need as much clothing. If students wore uniforms to school everyday, the amount of clothes needed for their wardrobe would be lessened. “Hasn’t it occurred to anyone that children have to wear something to school? Uniforms are considerably cheaper than other kinds of clothing” (Gursky 48). ... “Another important factor in the use of school uniforms has been cost. ... Uniforms reduce the cost of keeping up since they remain the same – day to day, year after year.
