The conventional rivalry between Shiahs and Sunnis is the major reason of the fanning the sectarian strife in Pakistan. Both sects stood daggers drawn against each other to adversely pollute the religious and political climate of the country. The assassination of prominent religious leaders belonging to both Shiahs and Sunnis provided an immense fillip to the sectarian strife. ... There have been a number of writers and analysts who trace the origin of sectarianism and religious intolerance from the Zia regime. They are of the view that sectarianism and religious intolerance received a tremendous boost because of the massive funding to the Deeni Madrassas of a particular sect by Zia-ul-Haq. ... In their bid to win the mandate of the voters they malign every other faction, especially the other religious parties of being unislamic and detracting the masses. This kind of mud slinging has polluted the political and religious climate of the country by promoting hatred and polarization among various factions. For the first time in 1971, the three religious parties, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat-ul-jlema-e-Islam and Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Pakistan jumped into the political arena to contest the elections. The martial law of Zia-ul-Haq was an immediate offshoot of religious parties’ upheaval and uprising. ... The exact situation prevails in Pakistan,. The politico-religious parties hire the people and create chaos in the society. ... The same situation exists exactly in Pakistan. ...
