Target Date

FRONT PAGE 1. The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram’s front page measured 23 ˝ inches in length and 12˝ inches in width. All of the columns on the page were 2” wide except for one that measured 2 ˝”. The Akron Beacon Journal measured exactly the same in length and width and all of the columns measured 2”. 2. The names of my two newspapers were the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram and the Akron Beacon Journal. I like the name of the Akron Beacon Journal best because of the definition of a beacon. A beacon is a light to direct seamen. I believe this is appropriate because the newspaper lights the way with its wealth of information. EDITORIAL PAGES 1. The Elyria Chronicle only contained two letters to the editor. The first letter spoke of wireless technology being the latest trend in public schools. The second letter consisted of a man asking forgiveness for past crimes he has committed. He felt God had given him a second chance and hopes that families of his victims can do the same. The Akron Beacon Journal contained three editorial letters. A Cuyahoga Falls man wrote one of the letters to politicians and school board members. He emphasized many times over that a vote of “no” means just that. He felt that once taxpayers vote against a school levy, for example, they should not have to vote on it again the next month. Alice Deffbaugh wrote her letter about our governments plans to attack Saddam Hussein. She felt our time and money should be geared toward our economy, defenses, education and health systems. The last letter focused on President Bush. Theda E. Dent feels President bush is crooked and gained his position and wealth by crooked means. This writer was asking Democrats to tell voters that Republicans stand for the rich getting richer. The ratio of editorial letters between the two newspapers was 3:2. 2. The Chronicle-Telegram had one editorial cartoon. Its subject was about the potential for a baseball strike. The Akron paper contained two cartoons of the same subject. TELEVISION SCHEDULES 1. The Elyria Chronicle Telegram had one page dedicated to television. Half of that page was a T.V. listing.
