The pastel sky is barely visible between the thick green foliage overhead. Scarlet petals fall through the branches above me. It is late in the summer of 1994, and there is nothing to do but sit and think. The air is warm and humid, with ocean breezes carrying the cool smell of salt over the nearby seawall. The soft washing of the waves mingles with the sleepy songs of birds in the sort of harmony sought after by those who buy whale song CD’s.
