Testosterone Differences Among College Fraternities: Well-Behaved vs. ... Hargrove, and Colleen Heusel~
In Dabbs et al study of the relationship between testosterone levels and fraternity’s level of rambunctiousness, Dabbs explored a question posed by earlier researchers (Hargrove) as to why well-behaved and academic achieving fraternities had low levels of testosterone. Dabbs and his teams hypothesized from the earlier research that perhaps levels of testosterone were positively correlated with their level of “party-like” behavior. In order to gain insight into their questions the Dabbs team sought out two universities and separated their rambunctious fraternities from their more mild-mannered fraternities. In each of these fraternities they randomly selected 20 members and administered a testosterone analysis via the subject’s saliva. ...
The results of the study concluded that the mean testosterone levels of the “rambunctious” group were higher than that of the “responsible” group, and that differences among those fraternities within the rambunctious group did not vary significantly.
