The difference between the two scenes being examined is very important to the overall themes of the poem. Before the fall, in book eight, Adam and Eve sound very innocent and naïve of the world. Adam is completely helpless to the charms of Eve’s beauty, and falls in love with her immediately. He really does not care how wise she is, but he would listen to anything she told him to do.
