Girl Interrupted

In the movie “Girl, Interrupted”, there are many characters that deal with different mental disorders. The setting of the movie is in a mental hospital, so it is quite obvious that there is going to be a large display of mental illnesses. In the movie there are two main characters that are portrayed in detail. The protagonist, Susanna Cason, is at the institution after attempting to commit suicide. She has been diagnosed as having Borderline Personality Disorder. The second character is Lisa. Lisa has been at the institution for approximately eight years. She is diagnosed as having Antisocial Personality Disorder. There are very specific criterions for each disorder. Below explains how both Susanna and Lisa fit the characteristics for the respective disorders. As stated before, Susanna suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. There are nine characteristics for this illness. In order for someone to be classified under this disorder, they must fit five of the nine characteristics. The first is the patient desperately tries to convince themselves that they have not been abandoned. Whether it is real or imagined abandonment, they convince themselves that they have not been deserted.
