The epic movie Gladiator was superbly supported by the ingenious cinematography techniques of John Matthieson the Director of Photography. From the snowy, bloody, gruesome fields of Germania to the warm, earthy tones of the farm that belongs to Maximus the Gladiator the lighting and colour used creates vibrancy and believability to every scene used in the film. The hard lighting techniques used on each character creates an individual look that augments the motivation, virtues and personality traits that each character possesses.
