MOVIES IN THE 1930’s Since the invention of the first motion pictures, Chinese shadow puppets, man has been intrigued with the ability to recreate events visually. The shadow puppets were simply puppets moved in front of a source of light. The silhouette of the shadow puppet was projected onto the wall. Over many decades this crude technology began to adapt into projectors that could display a picture on the wall. Originally glass slides were used, this allowed pictures to be revealed in slow succession, so slide shows developed. It wasn’t really until film became more common place that pictures acquired the ability to move. It was realized that if slides were shown in extremely rapid succession a viewer’s brain would fill in anything missing between slides. In the late 1800’s and 1900’s movies became very popular. At first the films were very limited; they were relatively short because of the enormous length of film needed.
