Abstract expressionism was the name given to an artistic movement that began to take form in the USA during the 1950’s. It is fairly complex to define the exact ideology of the movement but essentially abstract expressionism uses elements of expressionism in an abstract way. Expressionist artists used symbols and particular styles of painting to express feelings and emotion.
