When the name Oliver Stone is mentioned some people may think he is just a director or that he made a couple of good movies. When I hear the name Oliver Stone, the thoughts that come to mind are that he is the most innovative and controversial director of his time. ... Oliver Stone has made many great films that have earned him a total of four Oscar nominations and two Oscars for best director(2). ... ” Oliver stone expressed his three major political views about Vietnam in his two films “The Doors” and “Platoon” and by doing this inadvertently portrayed himself in each of the movies.
Oliver Stone believed that the United States should not have even been in Vietnam(2). ... In an interview on the DVD Stone said that he wanted this scene in the movie because it represented a symbol of gentleness during a time that was anything but gentle. ... This also hits really close to home for Oliver Stone because during his tour as a soldier in Vietnam the army was trying to crack down on soldiers in the field that were wearing peace charms. ... Stone said he would wear his peace charm out as much as he could without getting in to much trouble. By putting this into the movie Stone had unconsciously written things that he did into the screenplay, which if you watch this movie closely he does this on quite a few occasions. ... This was a very strong belief of Stone because in an interview on the DVD he said no matter how bad the situation was, no matter how ugly things were getting and no matter how scared he was the music was always there.
