The films “Fools Rush In” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” generally talk about cross-cultural relationships. ... Two distinct cultures were highlighted in these two movies: the Latin culture in “Fools Rush In” and the Greek culture in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”
From the film, I have learned that Greek and Latin culture have a lot of things in common. ... I understand that all parents, whether they be Greek or Latin or Filipino, want nothing more but the best for their children, but to run their lives and tell them what to do, or screen their suitors and tell them who to marry is just so unfair. ... In the two films, though their parents rejected their union at first they later on accepted the fate of their children. In “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, the parents of Toula even went as far as buying the newly weds a brand new house for their wedding gift. ... In both films, Alex and Ian were all overwhelmed to see the huge number of their partners’ relatives, who by the way love to socialize and have as many family gatherings as much as they could. In fact at the wedding ceremony of the “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, the side of the church for the bride’s guests was jam packed while that of the groom’s was almost empty.
