Janice Fletcher What are the primary characteristics of classicism? How are they reflected in the 18th century music? In the Classical Period, the composers began to look at compositions in a simpler way artistically. The compositions were clearer and more symmetrical. The primary characteristics of classicism are that it has lyrical melodies, diatonic harmonies, regular rhythm, homophonic texture, changes in dynamics, and uses many of the elements of folk music.
