Charles Ives was born on October 20, 1874 in the small town of Danbury, Connecticut. His father, George Ives was a huge influence to Charles music. He gave Charles his first piano lessons, hoping that he would grow up to be a pianist. Instead Charles specialized in the organ, and eventually became one of the finest organists of his generation. ... Soon after he began Yale, Charles was devastated by the death of his father, something that he never got over his entire life.
