‘Bon Jovi was one of the most successful rock bands of the 1980’s, and one of the few pop- metal groups that have maintain their popularity into the 90’s’ . Formed in New Jersey, United States of American, the group signed to Polygram/ Mercury Records in 1983 after the success of ‘Runaway’ which had become a hit on local radio stations and had inspired Jon Bon Jovi (John Francis Bongiovi Junior) to put a permanent band together.
Together with keyboardist David Bryan Rashbaum, bassist Alec John Such, drummer Tico Torres and, guitarist Richie Sambora, the band was named after the frontman’s new surname Bon Jovi.
Bon Jovi released their first album in 1984 and their second album the following year; they were soon gaining national exposure supporting groups such as the Scorpions, Whitesnake, Kiss and Judas Priest.
In 1986 with songwriter Desmond Child they released their third album “Slippery when wet” that came out with two songs reaching number one, “You give me a bad name” and “livin’ on a prayer”. ... ‘”Slippery When Wet” went on to sell more than ten million copies and spend eight weeks at the top of the album charts, establishing Bon Jovi as the leading hair metal band of the ‘80s.’
But unlike most other heavy metal bands, the members of Bon Jovi did not identify with the tough attitude of drugs and alcohol abuse.
