From Rockabilly to Woodstock
“I love the rhythm and beat of good rock and roll music and I think most people like it too. ... Rockabilly was developed, but it would later die out when Elvis went to war (Szatmary 60). ... Blues and country style music was combined to make the rockabilly sound (Szatmary 35). ... Bill Haley and his band was a country music band from Pennsylvania. ... This style came from the urban north, and was known as doo-wop (“Rock Music”). ... From then on, folk groups began to use rock arrangements. ... Music artists from San Francisco, such as Janis Joplin, Santana, and Jefferson Airplane had a hard time signing record deals, due to San Francisco’s Bad reputation for music (“Rock music”). ... Also developing were Latin rock, such as Santana, and Jazz rock, with groups like Blood, Sweat and Tears (“Rock Music”)
In 1969, one of the most important music festivals in the history of rock music was held near Woodstock, New York. Michael Lang, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, and Artie Kornfeld, an executive at Capitol Records, originally thought of the idea of Woodstock (“Woodstock Festival” Microsoft).
