Allthough anti-american statements and bush-criticism are very popular these days in germany (and other neihboors with leftwing traditions as well) it also reflects a european desire to emancipate from the deep cultural impact the american culture had on us in the post-war decade.
The cultural lack the fascism had left behind had to be filled with democratic and liberal contents (in adenauer´s west-germany) wich would give the emerging society a profile that would make it able to forget the monoethnic (and -ethic) standards of before.
