History of Jazz The Bebop Revolution

Bebop emerged in the 1940’s as a style of jazz in great contrast to the music of the big bands. A number of social and economic events helped bring on the bebop era. ...

Bebop was also a protest against a commercialism and white American culture. Some people viewed the bebop genre as a social revolution, lead by ground-breaking young black musicians who sought to create a black subculture untainted by the white mainstream (1).

Bebop featured a small group of musicians, which was about four to six players, rather than the ten or more players associated with the big bands.
