The music industry flourished until the early 90's when a program called Napster flamed across the internet. In just a few short months everyone was downloading music off of the internet from Napster or companies like Napster. The record industry never really said anything about the file sharing until Metallica sued Napster for giving out their music for free. Ever since the trial their has been an uproar about the peer to peer music sharing that has sprung many trips to the courtroom for the presidents of these small internet companies. The reason most of these companies were being sued is because the music groups are losing money when people download their songs, and copying them to compact discs, Then selling or giving the cd’s away. Also the music industry isn’t making near as much money from their compact disc sales because of the file sharing. It’s not right to take someone else’s work and enjoy it for yourself without paying for it.
