Music in the Middle and Renaissance Periods
Technology, art, politics, animals, humans and music all have one fundamental similarity, they all have evolved and will do so indefinitely. Music like many other art forms began simple and over time changed and was improved upon. Over time the change in various aspects of music including style, function, social impact and the advancement of instruments led (to the) evolution of music. Music has been defined as, “any series or combination of pleasant sounds” or “the art of giving structural form and rhythmic pattern to combinations of sounds produced instrumentally or vocally. Although there is no physical evidence we can infer with this definition that music is as old as mankind or possibly even before.
The middle ages brought forth several phases of growth and decline, many concerning religion and culture as a whole. Popular belief has tainted the middle ages as a period of downfall with an overbearing sense of religious conviction. However the middle ages were the birthplace and the foundation for music in its simplest form, the human voice.
