Music education is “on trial” in many school districts. Through the numerous arguments fighting to keep music education in curriculums, many are beginning to realize the importance of music in education today (Music in Education 1). Some people believe supporters of music education are creating false arguments in hopes of keeping music education around, yet through many surveys and tests, the points supporting music education have been proven correct (Rubiner 1T). Music education is beneficial to the lives of children today. It raises their cognitive skills, exercises their brains, keeps them in school, and teaches them values that will last them a lifetime. It has been found that music education can actually raise children’s cognitive skills. The College Board of 1997 said seniors who were involved in music and the arts scored significantly higher on their SATs than students not involved in the arts (Music is… 1997 SAT data shows music helps scores 1). Many teachers have also recognized the connection between music and learning, and thus have created songs to help kids learn. How many people in the United States don’t know the alphabet song? Music can also help children excel in math. There is a deep connection between math and music. Crossover talent has been noted in Einstein, who often liked to take a break from his studies to pick out a little tune on his violin.
