Philosophy on Music Teaching

Music is around us everyday of our life. Music can always be heard even when we don’t remember hearing it. While walking and hearing music from a passing car to music blasting from a store at the mall, music has the ability to calm the soul and arouse feelings from within our hearts. Music defines what is difficult to put into words making our lives a little better. Some find music while singing to themselves in the shower and others sing in the car on the way to work. Music seems to be a part of everyone’s daily life. Many times students are taught using music on how to spell their name and even how to learn all 50 states in alphabetical order. It only shows that teaching music in school helps students to learn what they might think possible. Therefore music in my opinion must be taught in school. ... What I mean is students have the right to decide if they want to believe something as fact but the teacher must believe in what they are teaching. ... My teacher felt the music was something the students preferred to play instead of “Brandenburg Concerto 1-3”. She never asked us our opinion on what music was popular. So in a sense, allowing the students to choose the music was something she did not believe in doing. ... Since I don’t have a classroom of my own yet, I know I might change my philosophy on classroom rules. ...
I believe in helping students understand life and how music can help them find peace in something they wouldn’t normally find peace in. ... Music helped me when my parents divorced.
