Topic: Is Music choice determined individually or through our History?
Method: I began my assignment by deciding on the topic to be covered and it’s aim. ... Which were designed to add insight into individual music choice, and thus going beyond common sense. ... My studies do not take into account how music choice is influenced through different cultures, race groups or age groups. ... Similarly their music taste had elements in common such as R&B, Hip-hop, Rock and the top 40 hits. However individual variations came about through exposure to different music by parents, friends and family. ... Different exposure to music is confronted by Burnett (1996:81).who points out that radio stations, television, film, advertising, newspapers and music press are gatekeepers, making key decisions about whether or not to select certain materials for distribution. Thus all the interviewees were influenced by similar media structures, listening at similar times each day, enjoying similar music and radio stations.
