Do you ever wonder what factors play into achieving the ideal scenario of the white picket fence, nice car, and overall financial stability? What types of things effect the outcome of whether a dream succeeds or fails? James Truslow Adams once said, “The American Dream is “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” We have seen this idea in use since the 1800’s when a flood of immigrants came to America with the hopes of gaining this so called “American Dream”. Throughout stories read in American Literature, one can observe that factors such as natural ability, luck, and effort play a vital role in whether a dream succeeds or fails.
