The Awakening
The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, is a story of a young woman’s life in the early nineteen hundreds. In this novel, Edna Pontellier experiences an awakening in which she breaks free from the mold of the traditional woman’s role as a housewife and child bearer. In the end of the novel, she returns to Grand Isle and the sea, the beginning of her awakening, and she ends her by allowing the ocean to take her. ... She took her own life in the sea off of Grand Isle because it was the sea and the island that began her awakening.
