In the novel, “Another Country,” point of view is essential to James Baldwin’s style of writing. James Baldwin lets his feelings flow through the thoughts and words of the main character, Rufus, a black man living in New York City in the mid 1900’s. As a young man who experienced the hardships of being an African American in Harlem both before and after the civil rights movement, Baldwin knows puts his feelings on paper, allowing the reader to realize the pain inside Rufus’ heart.
